Lovezzolas: 31 Years Of Great Pizza & Service
Ask Paul Lovezolla what the key to business success is and he’ll flat out
tell you, hard work and long hours. At least in the restaurant business
it’s this way.
No one would know more about being a restaurateur in Pooler than
Lovezzola. For the past 31 years, he has been giving the area a taste of
how a good ole slice of pizza pie should taste.
Of course, the sauce and dough recipes are Lovezzolas own. But don’t ask
for those secrets. As any successful pizza connoisseur or restaurant
owner knows, the secret is generally in the sauce and crust, both which
are made from scratch at Lovezzolas.
After 14 years in the dry cleaning business in Natick, Massachusetts,
Paul’s opportunity arose when he switched jobs and took a position as
manager of a pizza place next door to the dry cleaners. Shortly
thereafter, Badino’s Pizza was looking for a new owner, so Paul started
buying the equipment from the pizza place and before he knew it, he was
in the pizza business.
That was 38 years ago.
After six years of hard work, while trying to pay off their debts, Paul
and his wife Jaunita decided to relocate closer to Jaunita’s home and
family in Savannah. After a couple months of luckless job searching,
Paul’s father-in-law told him of a vacancy in Pooler Shopping Center. In
1978, Lovezzolas was born in the small space on Highway 80, but it wasn’t
long before Lovezzola would need to move to a bigger building.
Five years after opening Lovezzolas, he purchase property on Highway 80
and built a full service sit down restaurant where today they still serve
some of the area’s best pizza, subs and salads.
So why is Lovezzolas a Pooler favorite?
According to Paul it has a lot to do with service.
“We focus on what we know, and we stick to it,’ says Paul. “You got to
have pride in what you do. Knowing that you did something right, and you
put pride behind it has a lot to do with being successful. It all amounts
to providing good service, which is hard to find these days.”
Most 66-year olds are retired or are looking forward to it. Not
Lovezzola. Though his daughter, Sherry; son, Timmy and wife, Jaunita all
do their part in running the business, Paul can be found working in his
restaurant every day of the week, except his only night off - Friday.
Paul has never coined the first four letters of his last name in doing
business, however it is obviously apparent that there is a lot of “Love”
put into the service he provides Pooler.
